My introduction to Reflexology came through a book of my Grandmother’s. I used the book to locate specific reflexes on my own feet. At the time, I had frequent pain from my gallbladder and I found that I could stop the attacks by pressing very hard on my gallbladder reflex located on my right foot.
To have a gallbladder attack stop within 5 minutes was quite a discovery since many episodes had lasted 4-hours and were extremely painful. My doctor had told me to have the organ removed, explaining the attacks would only get worse. I went for a second opinion from a doctor who supported my decision to try diet changes and Reflexology techniques before resorting to something so drastic as surgery.
I continued my self-treatment and was so successful, I did not have to have my gall bladder removed and rarely experience any discomfort. This condition began, for me, a more in-depth exploration into this extremely interesting science. Along about the same time, my parents were introduced to an Amish Reflexologist. As my mother embarked upon a monthly regimen, her hips and shoulders started feeling better than they had in years.
This same Amish Reflexologist coaxed me into going to school for Reflexology. I traded my computer programming and management career for my own Foot Reflexology business. Thanks to the initial introduction into the Amish community from my Reflexologist, approximately 50% of my appointments and 90% of my house-calls are for my Amish clientel. It is a rewarding and beneficial calling. |
